"Singin' in the Rain" has remained a defining musical for the 1950s era and the modern era.

It is often said that magic comes from fairy tales, fantasy stories and a vivid imagination. Few of us, however, disagree with that statement on some occasions. Magic comes from life itself; the main character fully represents this wise anecdote in what may be the most charming number in a musical of the 50s. Unparalleled by then and irreplaceable now, Singin' in the Rain is one of the few musicals in history with such a high standard, and among the few movies that make me cry after watching a non-sad sequence over and over again. I insist there was a very damn good reason why Malcolm McDowell could only remember this song in A Clockwork Orange (1971). 97/100

When it is good, it's just incredible, but it lost me for a while at the overlong "Broadway Melody" interlude, which has nothing to do with anything.

I normally loathe musicals, but Gene Kelly's infectious charm and enthusiasm is irresistible and the supporting cast supply plenty of laughs. One of the all-time classics of the genre.

This movie really drags in places and is much longer than it needs to be. It's also difficult to watch "Make 'Em Laugh" without thinking of the blatant plagiarism. It's still a good musical, though; it's just not one of the greats. If you want to see Gene Kelly at his best, watch Summer Stock instead.

One of my favorite films and the best musicals ever made. A film that manages to succeed both as a musical with inimitable and memorable soundtrack, but also as a comedy - lampooning the transition between silent and talking films.

It's so alive with energy and is fun for the whole family. In my humble opinion: the best musical ever. This film is iconic.

The best movie musical would be a great movie even without the music. Jean Hagen is a comedy delight, and the many character actors in supporting roles add to the movie's charm. Add in Gene and Debbie's singin' and dancin' and squabblin', and then top it off with the best filmed dance routine of all time--Donald O'Connor's "Make 'em Laugh"--and you have the unbeatably perfect movie musical.
