Possibly the most stunningly realistic, eye-opening, and existentially out-of-body film about the Vietnam War. It could also be considered one of the greatest movies ever made.

Jaw-dropping; Coppola outdoes himself as he tries to go beyond his limits, both artistic and physical. The whole effort paid off. Apocalypse Now is a one-way ticket to the gates of Hades, the hell that war itself represents as it is not only a physical battle, but a psychological one as well. Vietnam was the perfect topic to treat. Everyone involved understood perfectly that its immediate reception was not meant to be good, but Coppola understood perfectly the everlasting effect it would cause in future generations. This is an authentic nightmare. 98/100

A great movie that had a brilliant vision by Coppola. This will go down as one of the best war movies of all time.

Apocalypse Now is just about the best war film ever made. It isn’t all about combat, killing and blowing things up; it’s about the effect that war has on people. It’s a harrowing, mesmerising, poetic piece that is gruelling and disturbing, but also profound and rewarding. If you're ever in doubt as to whether or not filmmaking can legitimately be called an art form, watch this movie. You won't be in doubt afterwards.

A war picture unlike any other. A true testament to the visual art of film. Not to sound all super critique, but this is one unforgettable piece of cinema. Trapped in enemy territory, on a classified mission (with an unattainable goal), our captain encounters danger at every new bend in the river. Accurate, thoughtful, and action packed. It all adds up to one exciting, tense adventure! Coppola's best film.

As accidental as the production of this film might have been (see documentaries on the making of), this film exudes brilliance. The acting is top-notch and this remains one of the most atmospheric and vivid depictions of the Vietnam War. It also appropriately captures the feeling of horror of the book it is based on.

For a movie with an extremely troubled production, it would be very difficult to dispute Apocalypse Nows legendary status. A mind blowing serious acid trip of a movie, Apocalypse is an ugly and surreal venture into the darkest realms of war as Vietnam is merely a backdrop for the madness and the feeling of confusion and bewilderment. A sprawling epic that is spectacular in its vision and resolute in its subtle condemnation of the war. A stonewall classic, Apocalypse Now lives with you long after the event.

In my opinion, the best war movie that's ever been made. Apocalypse Now is about Captain Willard, who is sent on special assignment to kill Colonel Kurtz, who has gone rogue and now commands troops at his will and is worshiped like a pagan god. Willard is to terminate his command...with extreme prejudice. It is a war movie, but it focuses more on the psyche of war and what it can do to people. Robert Duvall was nominated for an Academy award with his portrayal of Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, a footloose commander who gives the famous "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" speech. Worth the watch.
