Corny and a complete Rocky rip off

Hugh Jackman should be embarrassed that he degraded himself by starring in this shameless robot rip off of Rocky. It is almost a complete carbon copy of Rocky and it is beyond stupid, especially in the scenes were the kid dances with his robot. The fact that robots are fighting instead of people takes away any sense of danger or drama, and lowers the fight scenes down to complete video game level. There is also an abundance of really bad music, and a complete lack of explanation for why these robot fights are occurring. The movie plays like a total kiddie movie, until out of the blue there is a savage "Goodfellas" type beating of the main character and his kid, which is almost completely out of place. I am being very generous by giving this knucklehead movie two stars. A solid …

Robot With Heart

I know this is basically Rocky with Robots. But hey wasn't Rocky good so how much of a knock is that really? I mean sure it is no Rocky in the end but it sure is a fun ride. They did a great job of making you care about Charlie, his son Max and their little engin that could fighting robot Atom. You know the drill we have seen it a hundred times in sports movies. Underdog claws his way to the top and gets to stand toe to toe with the unbeatable champion. Where this movie really excelled was making me care about the characters and wanting to see the underdog win. In the end was it corny, yes, was it cheesy, yes, but was it fun, heck yes. If you are looking for a little corny, cheesy, fun action this is a good movie to watch by your self or with you family.

Real Steel review

A former boxer Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is an insensitive character who enjoys betting his robots though he never pays his dues. He then sees his son Max (Dakota Goyo) and becomes close with him after discovering a robert. Despite its flaws, an overdone formula and its sometimes dull dramatic scenes, it still however entertains. One can see the transformation of Charlie, the attention needed by a child in Max, and the support given by Bailey (Evangeline Lilly). Had some nice quotes from Charlie "Crazy how everything changes." Baily - "Something is better than nothing." and Maz - "Get up!...Hang on!." Real Steel is an endearing film not only of robots slugging it out, but the importance of righting wrongs, fatherhood and integrity when it comes to deals.

"Real Steel" by Yojimbo

In a near future where human boxing has been replaced by bouts fought by giant mechanical robots, an ex-fighter and deadbeat dad bonds with his estranged son while taking a scrapyard reject to the championship. Rocky gets robotic in this borderline sci fi that takes the familiar sporting underdog formula and adds some excellent merchandising opportunities. It's no doubt a very cynical exercise with some blatant product placement to be seen and plenty of colourful robots to line the shelves in Toys R Us but the fact is that the film is extremely accomplished in its execution. Making the fighters robotic rather than human means that the excitement of the bouts is not coloured with the ugly violence of watching two men beat each other to bloody unconsciousness making for a family friendly …

Rocky with Robots

This movie is basically rocky with robots. The last fight and story is the same as rocky in too many ways almost ithe same, also its one of the most corniest movies i have seen in a long time. many times i wanted to reach for the sick bucket. saying that kids will like it. and it was well made.
The story is very simple jackman is a selfish guy who fights robots on remote control for cash but is down on his luck and owes money. his ex dies and he ends up looking after his son who he hasn't seen in 11 years. the kid finds a robot ( totally ridiculus ) and they end up going up against the best robot out there ( think rocky )
The first meeting with his kid was so unrealistic both on his reaction and attitude and the kid. there was no coming together as father and son shown expect through …

This bot is the real deal!

The story is in the year 2020 and instead of humans fighting in the ring we let robots do all the bashing for us. Hugh Jackman plays a down-on-his-luck, ex- boxer who now trains robot boxers for small venue fighting. He discovers he has a son from a deceased lover. His kid (Max, played by Dakota Goyo) is a shamelessly cute, cynical moppet who carefully rides the fine line between smart-alecky brat and wise-beyond-his-years. The central plot is about the estranged pair reconciling over their mutual love of robot boxing and a particular robot; a washed up, rusted out, Rocky-esque junker named "Atom" who is in every way the underdog, but despite his size he can take a beating.
There is a love interest for Jackman, a lovely female mechanic (Evangeline Lily) who is always in Jackman's …
