A Disturbing Fairytale

MovieMike - wrote on 01/25/2017

Children’s fairy tales seem magical and cute at a glance, but if you look a little deeper into the stories that parents have unwittingly fed to their children over the past century, they really are disturbing at best. With ‘Hansel and Gretel’ we have parents abandoning their kids in the woods followed by an encounter a witch who cooks and eats kids. ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ has an innocent little girl looking to do a good deed for her ill grandmother, only to come face-to-face with a man-eating wolf. How about ‘Cinderella’; the tale that gave stepmothers a really bad rap?

Hollywood has also not been shy about putting an adult spin on such precious childhood memories, like the 2011 version of ‘Red Riding Hood’; Guillermo del Toro’s very creepy ‘Pan’s Labyrinth …

adventure film without soul

Fairy tales from television mini drama comes as a gear for Sanders huntsman. Yes the title might really make the enticing fans of snow white to hook up and see the spark of her charm. The theme sets the tone by realizing that a evil queen wants to be immortal forever. Well, so to speak, immortality concept, I have seen before. Recently, I had seen On Stranger Tides, where the so called fountain of youth plays a high role. So does Snow white and Huntsman offer some different theme than slappy On Stranger Tides? Oh yes. But it gets chucked so hard that Sanders forgets the plot proceedings.

A king who fought bravely falls for the charm of an evil woman (Charlize Theron). Unknowing of her intention she is made the queen and his only daughter Snow White (Kristen Stewart) witnesses his …

MIRROR, MIRROR, WHO IS THE FAIREST OF THEM ALL?

MovieAddict - wrote on 06/30/2012

Although I love fairy tales I wasn't too enamored about seeing Kristen Stewart as Snow White but when I saw the trailer I thought this movie might be worth seeing because of Charlize Theron as the evil Queen Ravena and Chris Hemsworth as the titular Huntsman whose physique is most definitely worth a look or two, The story of Snow White is well known except this one has a darker tone and a bigger emphasis on the queen and the huntsman so I would spare you the trouble of reading yet another summary.

Charlize Theron is awesome playing her part with passion and conviction so as to be absolutely captivating and believably evil but beneath the obvious nastiness, Theron gives us a character deeply troubled, riddled by insecurity and teetering along a fraying tightrope of sanity. I’ve …

Snow White and the Huntsman movie review

trophywife - wrote on 06/14/2012

If you’re unfamiliar with my movie reviews, here’s the way it works: I go check out the latest movie everyone is talking about, drink an astonishing amount of diet soda, and then report back to you, looking for as many things to make fun of as this space allows, while trying to strike a balance with the positive highlights. Welcome. Let’s get started.

THE GOOD: What we have here is an attempt at taking the most mild-mannered and somewhat pathetic princess in history, and giving her a backbone. This is not your childhood fairy tale version, with whistling dwarfs and a helpless girl in a dress, running around with her hand over her mouth, always looking surprised. It’s a much darker and creepier scene playing out, which frankly adds to the appeal in my opinion.

Good Adaptation Of Classic Fairy Tale

Nick - wrote on 06/05/2012

Snow White and the Huntsman turns out to be a good adaptation to the original fairy tale. The selected cast was very questionable to me prior to the movie, but after watching the movie, I'm satisfied with the performances of Chris Hemsworth (who played Thor) and Kristen Stewart (from the Twilight movies). Out of the two, Chris Hemsworth did the best and has proven himself as a true actor to me. Kristen Stewart gets a few brownie points, but still lacks emotion. The way the film was adapted was quite good and entertaining, taking a more dark, violent, grown-up approach to the tale. This is no G-rated kiddy Disney film, and that is a good thing. Stunning modern effects and cinematography really came together to bring a great take on this classic. Surprisingly well worth watching in …

Snow White Remade to Decent Effect

Chris Kavan - wrote on 06/03/2012

I'm sure most people are aware of the Snow White story - evil queen, seven dwarves, magic mirror, poison apple, love conquers all - happily ever after. Snow White and the Huntsman has all the basic elements, but puts a decidedly more action-oriented spin on things.

I was very wary about the casting - I have never been a big Kristen Stewart fan and Chris Hemsworth is still a relatively unknown entity when it comes to leading-man status. Yet, despite my trepidation, the film managed to turn out much better than I would have expected. That's not to say I was completely blown away by the whole thing, but I didn't feel I wasted my money in watching it either.

The film opens with a widowed king taking on a phantom army of black crystalline enemies only to rescue a supposedly captive …

Review: Snow White and the Huntsman

MikePA - wrote on 06/03/2012

Snow White and the Huntsman retells the classic story in a much more edgier, darker, and (believe it or not) violent manner, showcasing exceptional visual effects and cinematography. The film adds a scarier twist to the original story, but it stays faithful to it. Newbie director Rupert Sanders does a fine job executing the story and the characters, but fails to flesh them out and develop them as people we're supposed to look up to, lacking emotional depth. That is to say, this is still a perfectly good film: visually stunning, beautifully shot, simple story, and never boring. Rupert Sanders has what it takes to make a great film. I'm expecting one from him in the future.

If you don't already know the Snow White story, it's basically about an evil queen, Ravenna (played by Charlize …
