"World War Z" by Yojimbo
Yojimbo - wrote on 08/20/2015
An outbreak of a virus that transforms human beings into vicious killers sweeps across the globe while a disaster zone investigator tries to trace its source in the hope of creating a vaccine. The first question is an obvious one, and no, disappointingly they're not "proper zombies". But of all the "fast zombie" genre, World War Z actually works by far the best. Seeing a tidal wave of rabid humanity with no sense of self-preservation hurl itself at crumbling civilisation makes for some extremely tense, visceral and exciting set pieces and the realisation of a world in dramatic crisis is extremely well done. Plot-wise things are not so strong; the story is little more than a series of breadcrumbs leading across the world as Brad Pitt follows clues to a somewhat unsatisfying conclusion, …

"I am Legend" on a higher level.

"Most people don't believe something can happen until it already has. That's not stupidity or weakness, that's just human nature."
The movie looks like "I am Legend", but on a higher level. I thought it was an exciting and wonderful action disaster movie to sit back and watch it from your couch, with a bowl of salted peanuts, on a Friday night. The zombie concept plays a major role but ultimately it's not a real zombie movie. Where a zombie movie emphasis on bringing the pictures as gross as possible (dismembering human individuals f.e.), WWZ emphasis on the visualization of the mass hysteria that was caused by a rapidly spreading deadly virus. In my view, these shots were magnificent visualized at certain times. The mass moving like running water and how a group of brainless zombies …

A solid intense zombie film

Zombies: World War Z is a gory thriller. At one point of time, when things get unleashed, I was wondering, how is this going to end. Luckily I am relieved and in fact I give a strong statement that Pitt pulled it off with his guts and charm. Gory scares: Director Marc Foster (after a poor take on James Bond) has brought back the zing to the hardly unbelievable film that gets brownie points for its novel take on the zombie genre. It did not knock me off, but Foster adds a certain element of hope to put this a perfect film. The undead are really gory, and another great thing I liked about is the speed with which they run and attack. Whole some summer fun! Who takes the role? It is Brad Pitt. I am certainly confused of Pitt taking such films with lot of CGI, but hey he did a wonderful job. …

World War Z review

Realistic, action packed and smart zombie flick. Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), his wife Karin's (Mireille Enos) family is caught on the road from a widespread panic because of a virus spread in New Jersey. Some memorable lines from the movie: "It's crazy." "Movement is life." "If you can fight, fight...help each other...be prepared for anything" - Gerry "With all respect please turn off all cell phones and pagers." Its themes is varied which range from isolationism, survival, family, fighting for a resolution and nations in crumble because of government/a virus. Some minor glitches for this critic would be the obvious sequel in which he said "This isn't the end. Not even close. Our war has just begun," how easily Gerry dodges some very nifty situations and lack of depth since the …

World War Z UNRATED
Jacob Zembower - wrote on 09/06/2013
Two thing should be stated before I continue with this write up. A) I've never read the novel of which this film is based, so whether it's a good adaptation or not is beyond me, and B) I opted out of seeing the PG13 theatrical release and waited for the UNRATED version that would ultimately come out on Bluray, so I can't discuss how it compares to the more family friendly version. With that said, WORLD WAR Z is an exciting, exhilarating, wonderfully made blast. No more than a few minutes pass before we are thrown into a world of chaos, with intense action sequences, and sustained scenes of seat gripping tension. A sequence near the end had me on the edge so much that it recalled the raptors in the kitchen sequence. It may not reach the poetic, masterful, brilliance of my …

Small spoilers
The movie has some very high suspense moments still it did not entertain me.
I had very many problems with the movie, the script, the directing.
The performances are solid but not great. Damn, Brad Pitt got old. The story is quite usual: Zombies and panic. We have seen that very often. And of course there is one hero who tries to find a cure. The directing of the movie was strong at some parts but then Marc Forster fell in love with Brad Pitt. He made some really huge close-ups and filmed him a little bit from under, so that he can look bigger and some other things.
The character build-up of this movie is terribly bad. Brad Pitt had a family in the movie, but without one it not have been more emotional. Some characters are soooo underdeveloped, that they did not …

Edge-of-Your-Seat, Terrifying Fun
JLFM - wrote on 07/06/2013
After a messy production period, various re-shoots, and a 190 million dollar budget- exceeding the original 125 million price tag- World War Z had been expected to flop both critically and financially. Much to the surprise of most, World War Z did moderately well with critics and performed well at box office.
As for me personally, I found it pretty difficult to even sit still during the film as it was a truly nerve-wracking experience. It was not only suspenseful, it was stressful (and certainly a little terrifying at times).
Needless to say, I had a great time.
World War Z imagines what would happen if a zombie outbreak occurred on the earth, and believe me, it ain't pretty. Humans are infected as soon as they are bitten by one of the undead, and then they become zombies too. …

It's not art, but it's entertaining.

Here's my take on zombie movies: A zombie movie doesn't need high class and drama. It needs good props and makeup, a good script, and a good director.
This film has two of them, the weakest being the director.
Marc Forster is not a bad director. He is just bad at filming action. He made Stranger Than Fiction, an adorable little romantic comedy, which really surprised me with its depth and acting. He should stick to that. There were a lot of great shots in World War Z, but none of them were in the action scenes.
There were similar problems in Marc Forster's last film Quantum of Solace. Everyone gives that movie hate, but it's kind of my guilty pleasure.
This film has a very simple structure to follow. That's not necessarily bad, but it isn't very original, either. It's one huge scene …

Review: World War Z
MikePA - wrote on 06/24/2013
My expectations for World War Z were fair, but I wasn't too excited considering all of the production issues that ensued, which is usually a bad sign. But positive reviews made me hopeful, and because of that I chose Brad Pitt battling zombies over monsters bouncing around in college. I guess I'm the minority here, but I really wished I had chosen the monsters. I bet for every time I yawned in World War Z I would have laughed aloud two or three times in Monsters University.
I've never read the novel, so I'm unable to differentiate between that and the film. But from what I've read, World War Z isn't that faithful of an adaptation. So fans of the book may be disappointed. But coming out of the film as an average moviegoer, the best thing I could honestly say about the film is that …

Fun Ride; Cliche plot

World War Z has little in common with its source material, and I don’t particularly care. We’ve had several romantic comedy zombie movies, we’ve had a zombie movie with vampires and even a children’s zombie movie, but we haven’t really had a major, straight up, major, zombie film since 28 Weeks Later. World War Z may not be a fresh take on the genre, but it’s a really fun throwback.
World War Z plays it fast and holds on tight, keeping the audience engaged throughout its run time. Each new set piece keeps the audience on their toes and even after the third time Brad Pitt has had to sneak past the zombies to get to the mcguffin so that he can get to the other mcguffin and save the day with the mcguffin, the movie never loses its entertainment value. The audience is …
