I haven't seen the original - but based on the other comments it's the better film - this is all about lots of bodies piling up in a gruesome way and it's still corny what with the fun-house of horrors with diabolical traps around every corner. It's bloody but not very good.

While 'The Collector' was more in line with the 'torture porn' sub-genre, this sequel is more of a funhouse slasher. The paper-thin plot boils down to a group of people surviving in a labyrinth of deadly booby traps set by the masked madman. The movie is only interested in racking up a high, bloody body count. In this regard, you could say that it succeeds. But that's ultimately all it has to offer. It's just a routine exercise in silly bloodshed.

The Collection (2012) Arkin (Josh Stewart) is the only person to escape from a serial killer named, “The Collector.” The Collector likes to entrap his victims and then take them to maze-like buildings full of deadly traps. A young woman named, Elena (Emma Fitzpatrick), has been kidnapped, and it’s up to Arkin to rescue her. This is a bloody and violent film, to be sure, but its portrayal of the deaths are not drawn out (as they are in the Saw series) and some of them are rather creative. I feel that this film has a little more intelligence to it than the run-of-the-mill slasher film. The story moves very quickly, and I really enjoyed the ending, which is sure to set up the next film. My Rating: Bargain Matinee

I did enjoy the film because it was as fun as the funhouse in the original, but i was a bit disappointed with the content of the film itself. After the original being such a great idea and so well done for a straight to DVD release, the second basically took the same kills and traps and moved them to another location, one that was his own. They left it open for another sequel that they better not do because this is not really a movie that can be made into a full franchise.

Unlike the 2009 Collector film, which was focused around tension, sadism, and cruelty as well as subtle characterization in a fairly realistic world, The Collection is a silly hyperbole of giant death trap machinery, a giant impenetrable fortress, and Zombies. Yes, this movie is so silly that it has Zombies in it! Little characterization or background is given to the Collector himself; it is still unclear why and how he became the collector. This movie is just lazy; it slaps gore and action scenes together to meet the deadline. They even contradict the limited information we knew about The Collector (like how he was a Hispanic exterminator). Stick to the original and skip this Lazy sequel.
