Twisty thriller about a special effects man framed for murder and now has to clear his name. Bryan Brown plays a different kind of action hero that uses trickery and cunning instead of his fists or weapons. Usually. Brian Dennehy is on hand as a wily detective turned ally. Cannot say that the villains or the evil scheme is that interesting. But watching Rollie Tyler (Brown) set these elaborate traps is fun to watch.

One character in the earliest scene mentions something about movies today (1980's at the time) being all about the f/x. The same can be said of this movie. Here we have a standard crime movie, with enough murder and head scratching twists to spare. Though, with the story being about an actual movie f/x artist, the f/x themselves are great and make it worth the watch.

I found this movie very dated, which made it difficult to get involved in the movie.

Made before there were really great special effects, this movie offered some exciting stuff for it's time. It's still a pretty good little thriller. There is some really bad acting done by the chick who plays Bryan Brown's assistant -- maybe she's the producer's daughter. But Dennehy, Brown and Orbach are all good.
