Action-comedy w/ an equal # of hits and misses...

Melissa McCarthy finally hit her mark with her performance in Spy, her latest collaboration with director Paul Feig. There is a lot that works in Spy both as a comedy and an action movie.
It's surprisingly violent for a comedy with people getting shot, stabbed, maimed, and in one disturbing scene their throat dissolving. What's surprising is how well-shot the action is and how convincing McCarthy is as the hero. Some of the supporting cast works like Alison Janney as her worn out superior, Jude Law as her oblivious love interest, Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale as the villains.
What's disappointing is that Jason Statham actually doesn't factor much into the movie. It's only when there's a sight-gag to be needed to show him playing against type as a total klutz. It's certainly funny …

Spy – Rating 7 out of 10
Melissa McCarthy has done it again! Those who have watched Identity Thief would be aware that her comic timing is really good.
The story isn’t new but at least there is freshness in its treatment. The role reversal of McCarthy & Statham works in its favour.
We have watched Jason Statham play the tough macho kind of roles but how many knew that his comic timing is equally good. It is a delight to see him in this different role of a dumb-ass sidekick.
The dialogues are sharp and funny – add Jason’s dialogue delivery to it and they become hilarious.
McCarthy does not only deliver an excellent performance but also manage to convincingly play the role of a spy. A special mention for the …

McCarthy Scores Again

'Spy' is a fun action/spy comedy with consistent laughs. McCarthy once again shows her best comedic efforts under the direction of Feig ('Bridesmaids', 'The Heat'). I think the pair should work together exclusively due to their hilarious track record thus far. In this latest, they send up the spy genre in a semi-spoof/serviceable genre piece kind of way. This type of comedy could've easily taken the lame route and had her character be an incapable prat-faller thrown into an unknown situation where we are supposed to laugh at her misfortune. Quite the opposite happens. McCarthy is made out to be a capable asset who gets sidelined due to the negative reinforcement around her. But great things happen when she is given the chance to shine. She breaks out of her shell and becomes a …

Enjoyable comedy

Well that was surprisingly funny and not terrible as I thought it was going to be.
The story is about a CIA analyst who just so happens to be responsible for the success of some of the most dangerous missions. But when her partner suddenly disappears and another top agent is compromised, she finds herself going from behind the desk to into the field - deep undercover to infiltrate the inner circle of an arms dealer and prevent a global catastrophe.
Spoof movies on spy films isn't anything new, we seen some good and we also seen some really bad ones that are not written very well and the jokes are just flat and retarded. Spy starring Melissa McCarthy looked the same and I didn't really care about until the film got it's early reviews from critics and it got positive reviews. So I …
