Harper (Jessie Buckley) is reeling from the death / possible suicide of her (was soon to be ex) husband (Paapa Essiedu) and decides to take a quiet, relaxing escape to the countryside. It turns out this quaint escape is populated by lots of guys (all played by Rory Kinnear) and exudes creepiness wherever she goes. A naked Green Man, a bratty kid, an handsy vicar, an unhelpful cop - and make sure to stay for the body-horror end. I don't know if I get the message (something about grief and rebirth maybe?) but I sure won't forget it anytime soon.

A psychological allegory that comes off like a failed experiment, Alex Garland's first ever miss has some excellent performances and effects, but a style that pushes harder on its message than it does on building tension.

And now, the Estrogen Network presents, 'Afternoon Yak'. (Semi-)Seriously, Men is basically a Little Britain sketch made into a feature length horror film. I don't know if that's my original thought or if I heard it somewhere, but it's been an incredibly descriptive way to summarise the movie when recommending it to others.
