"Ponyo" stays true to Miyazaki's sense of childlike awe and wonder. It isn't his deepest and certainly not his darkest, but this whimsical fable about friendship is a delight.

Ponyo in my opinion not be the best Hayao Miyazaki movie that he did, but it's still a beautifully animated movie with it's fair shared of cuteness. The worlds that Hayao Miyazaki created had my mind blown but it's amazing and really creative imagination, and with this it dose have some of that, to be honest Ponyo didn't really stick out for me. It's a good film don't get me wrong, but to compare it to he's other masterpieces, yeah Ponyo isn't the greatest to me.

Much as Spirited Away was a take on Alice in Wonderland, so Ponyo is a take on the classic Little Mermaid. In this case a goldfish princess slips away from her wizard father and rides a jellyfish to the human world. A five-year old Sosuke finds her caught in a jar and saves her. After some cute adventures, Ponyo is returned home but her taste of humanity (literally) has given her the power to become human - not without some …

I'm shocked and appalled this wasn't nominated for best animated film. Nothing against Coraline, Princess and the Frog or Secret of Kells, but along with Up, I thought this deserved a place on the list.
