"Logan Lucky" by Yojimbo

The Logan family from West Virginia never had much in the way of luck, but when big brother Jimmy loses his job they decide to test it by staging a robbery of the Charlotte Motor Speedway track.
Taking a cue from the Kubrick classic The Killing, this is yet another heist movie from the ever-prolific Steven Soderbergh. Logan Lucky is essentially “Yokel’s Eleven” as in a change from the usual fast-talking smooth operators, the job is perpetrated by a motley assortment of hicks and dropouts which puts something of a fresh spin on the genre. The cast are all very likeable, including Adam Driver as a superstitious, one-armed combat veteran, Daniel Craig as a bleach-blonde safe cracker suffering from an inconvenient bout of incarceration and Riley Keough as the resident Daisy Duke. As with many of Soderbergh’s movies, it does feel a little lightweight and generic but it never fails to entertain and has some genuinely funny moments.
Not a world-changer, but Logan Lucky is an enjoyable – if slightly inconsequential – bit of fun that will appeal to fans of a good, old-fashioned heist.
