The Outlaw Josey Wales review
Daniel Corleone - wrote on 03/06/13
The family of Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) has been murdered. He practices with a gun and becomes an outlaw to avenge his wife and son. Soundtrack was wonderful but nothing memorable. Eastwood's performance was earnest though the other figures felt unbelievable. The action was relentless and screenplay impressive. Some memorable lines: "Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is." and " I guess we all died a little in that damn war." - Josey. "It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues" - Ten Bears. Only minor qualms this reviewer had were the length due to the number of background characters (some even a bit cheesy with the dialogues) that rode with him and the death of the person who died by the sword instead of a bullet. The Outlaw Josey Wales is a spectacular western with an anti-war message and a lying government who only makes promises without keeping them. A great film for its genre, not as perfect as Unforgiven. Still, it is one of the highlights of Eastwood in his acting/directing career.
