The success of this mediocre movie rising above it's initial potential rests entirely on the shoulders of Pacino an Depp. Without their strong lead preferences, I'd lower my score. There's not much offered besides the typical cops and gangsters story. Mostly a retread of scenes from other films to less effect. I also found the musical score completely off at times.

Donnie Brasco is one of the last great crime films that managed to channel the brutal and insightful spirit of earlier genre films, such as Goodfellas or Casino. It features Johnny Depp in a subtle and less cartoonish role than he has recently taken, and Al Pacino in one of his last great roles, before he dipped into over-acting territory.

Crooks and undercovers. Stockholm Syndrome, sort of. Always considered a good movie. Watch and decide for yourself.

Another fantastic mobster movie with Al Pacino leading the way. Pacino plays...you guessed it a gangster... who befriends Johnny Depp's character (Donnie Brascoe) and brings him on as part of his crew, not knowing he is actually an undercover FBI agent. Pacino is right at home in this genre as usual but the breakout performance of Depp was not only surprising but quite remarkable. Michael Madsen, James Russo and Bruno Kirby are all great as part of the gang and even Anne Heche does a nice job as the tiring wife. I love this movie especially the dialogue between the two leads. As much as I love Pacino, Depp makes this a Top 50 hit......coming in at #40.....
