Bland characters and frantic ADD proof battle scenes run amuck in this unexceptional historical epic although I have trouble labeling it an epic. A failed attempt at a genre revival.

Such a spectacular movie with great action sequences, incredible acting, and a great storyline to pull it all together. One of the few movies where the characters are so perfectly drawn, Gladiator will not disappoint any modern moviegoer.

This is one of those movies that's so hard to rewatch, because it's so long and Russell Crowe is so hard to look at. Connie Nielsen's greatest role perhaps. This movie left me wanting to see more movies with her, but unfortunately they're so hard to come by.

Second Scott's best after Blade runner, Gladiator is the name of the man that went trough disgrace, to finally achieve greatness. The movie marks the return of epics after a lot of years without this pleasant genre. The mixture (and ultimating homage) of older movies, is great. You will really love the score, the cinematography and Crowe's acting. A must see of modern american cinema.

An amazing story that leaves you hanging on from the beginning. The environments were very elaborate and remarkable. John Mathiesion, the cinematographer is to be commended highly for his general inventiveness and ability to capture so much on film. The opening battle scene is superb as a cast of thousands erupt across the screen and provide an indication that we are about to see a film that pays incredible attention to detail throughout its entirety. The film is filled with amazing battle sequences held in the arena and a story of revenge that nearly matches Ben-Hur's (1959). Russell Crowe does an excellent job as the betrayed servant of Rome and the ability Joaquin Phoenix shows as a truly insane emperor is amazing.

One of the few modern films that takes the old "sword & sandals" motif and makes it work. With a great story and brilliant casting, Gladiator works as both an action movie and an emotional journey.

"Are you not entertained!!?" Perfect, beautiful music, great acting in a stellar performance by Crowe, and a plot that powers us through the movie....damn what a film. If you enjoy "heroic" figures, this one is for you!

Very few movies have epic battle scenes, great special effects, and acting that makes you really care for the characters. This movie has it all.
