"JFK" by Yojimbo

District Attorney Jim Garrison looks into the shooting of president Kennedy and finds so many discrepancies and loose ends he brings a criminal case to expose those who he believes were truly responsible. The quality of Oliver Stone's various projects has varied wildly during his career, but this conspiracy thriller based on that infamous event in US history counts as one of his best. Some of the "facts" are no doubt dubious at best, but what he does create is an intense and believable drama with the aid of a superb, generation spanning all-star cast. The investigation, although very wordy and convoluted, is a lot more involving than the likes of All the President's Men and the powerful courtroom recreation of the events of that day is absolutely fascinating. At a monumental 3 hours long …

JFK review

Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner), a New Orleans District Atty., prosecutes Clay Shaw (Tommy Lee Jones) for being part of a conspiracy to assassinate the President with an accomplices Lee Harvey Oswald (Gary Oldman) and David Ferrie (Joe Pesci). One of numerous quotes I enjoyed since some lines were evident the history of my country: Jim Garrison - “The Mob wouldn't have the guts or the power for something of this magnitude. Assassins need payrolls, orders, times, schedules. This was a military-style ambush from start to finish... a coup d'état, with Lyndon Johnson waiting in the wings.” “That good triumphs over evil. But as we get older, we know this isn't true. Individual human beings have to create justice, and this is not easy because the truth often poses a threat to power and …

JFK is a film directed by Oliver Stone that examines the events leading to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and alleged subsequent cover-up, through the eyes of former New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison (played by Kevin Costner). Garrison filed charges against New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw (Tommy Lee Jones) for his alleged participation in a conspiracy to assassinate the President. Stone described his fictionalized film as a "counter-myth" to the "myth" of the Warren Commission. I have been a fan of Oliver Stone's ever since I saw Platoon. However I don't think Stone has ever been quite as brilliant as with JFK. It combines a great screenplay, cinematography and perfect performances from all the actors. I think Oliver Stone works best when he has a point to make …

#29....Oliver Stones' JFK..........

I am not one of those people who have a problem with someone making a movie not based on very many facts...you know why?...because it is a MOVIE....Oliver Stone takes those liberties with JFK and although most of his facts are exaggerated or simply not true (movie has definitely been torn apart over the last decade and a half) it is still a very entertaining movie nonetheless. I don't know of a movie that has such a stellar cast which begins with the solid lead performance of Kevin Costners' Jim Garrison, the only attorney to bring a case to court involving the assassination of Kennedy. Also starring Gary Oldman, Kevin Bacon, Tommy Lee Jones, Joe Pesci, Jack Lemmon, Sissy Spacek, Donald Sutherland, Ed Asner and Walter Matthau this movie enthralls you from the onset and it has everything …

Fact or Fiction? Either way, one hell of a film!

I am not a conspiracy theorist, nor do I necessarily buy all of what director Oliver Stone tries to persuade his audience to believe, but that doesn't stop JFK from being incredibly fascinating and surprisingly entertaining. At 206 minutes, the director's cut fleshes out so many facets to the mind boggling case that lone wolf crusading district attorney Jim Garrison (Kevin Costner, in an astute performance) tries to build and present to a court of law (the only case ever brought to trial involving the assassination of JFK). With the pitch-perfect casting of key characters like Lee Harvey Oswald (Gary Oldman, disappearing completely in the role), and X (Donald Sutherland, crafty as ever in what most would turn into a thankless performance) Stone has compiled a suave, detailed and …

An interesting look at one man's quest to re-open the most famous murder case in US History. The movie is wonderful, and it deservingly won the Academy Award for Best Editing. But, the most interesting thing is the theory that it was one great big government conspiracy. But, that's just it, it's a theory. As for Oswald being the patsy as they say, or the government being involved along with big business and everyone else that's mentioned I can't say, however, the Discovery Channel in 2006 did a show called Unsolved History: JFK - Beyond the Magic Bullet which they claim proves that indeed, the magic bullet could have happened, it's very interesting if you would like further study on the subject. No matter what you believe, conspiracy theories, multiple or one shooter it doesn't …
