Kramer vs. Kramer review

Definitely one of the best movies about matrimonial discord and self assessment. From the leads conflicts, courtroom scenes up-to the touching conclusion, this film shines. Ted Kramer (Dustin Hoffman) is a focused workaholic married to Joanna (Meryl Streep). Joanna leaves Ted and their son Billy (Justin Henry). A legal custody ensues while Ted becomes a responsible father. Performances and screenplay was realistic. One of the really good quotes: Joanna - "I'm not taking him with me. I'm no good for him. I'm terrible with him. I have no patience. He's better off without me." Ted - "But I wasn't listening. I was too busy, too wrapped up... just thinking about myself. And I thought that anytime I was happy, she was happy. But I think underneath she was very sad. Mommy stayed here …

Great family drama film

A family drama film that I liked a lot more than I expected to. I thought it turned out to be quite effective and did not fail and fall into some standard melodramatic scenes it could have thought it was very good and the relationships in the films were very well done and could have faltered very easily in any of its scenes. Instead it only has one scene I found unnecessary it is what causes the film to have an R rating. The scene just is not really needed overall in the film.
Oscar Win Best Actor Dustin Hoffman- Hoffman is great as the father who must take care of his son alone. He stays great throughout the whole film and keeps the emotional levels of the film correctly. He does well and seems completely realistic and great in every scene. It is a very good performance that is one …

Sad and touching movie and a Must See!

'Kramer vs. Kramer' succeeds so tremendously, not because it shows us something that we've never seen before, but because it shows us life as we know it. The relationship between Ted Kramer and his young son Billy is really nothing remarkable – almost every father in the world shares a similar bond with his own son – and yet, paradoxically, this is what makes the film such a remarkable achievement: it is a window into real-life. That year, though 'Apocalypse Now (1979)' was undoubtedly the more impressive piece of cinema, the Academy decided to award the top honors to a film that was more intimate and closer-to-home {perhaps they were also hesitant, after 'The Deer Hunter (1978),' to reward a war picture two years in a row}. 'Kramer vs. Kramer' received, not only Best Picture, but …

Possesses a Silent Power
Franz Patrick - wrote on 09/15/2008
This picture possesses a silent power that cannot be found in many modern family dramas. Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep did a great job as far-from-perfect parents; one chose to leave and one had to stay. Eventually, they fight for their child in the courtroom but not in a loud or very dramatic way; it was done in a very naturalistic manner which made the film all the more impressive. The script is very smart in showing how the characters changed in a span of eighteen months. For instance, there’s a scene in the beginning that’s done again in the end to show how the two characters have evolved. There’s no wasted scene here–often, a struggle is shown that will eventually change the character’s outlook on how to parent or prioritize. Still, the title suggests that there will be …

Review - Kramer vs. Kramer (1979)

After Ted Kramer’s (Dustin Hoffman) wife Joanna (Meryl Streep) left him, he was left to care for his son Billy (Justin Henry) alone. Their relationship grows in the Best Picture winning film, “Kramer vs. Kramer.”
Ever since I first saw “Rain Man” I’ve wanted to see this movie. I think Dustin Hoffman is one of the best actors in Hollywood, and this film really proves I’m right. Henry is also a great young actor that really steals his scenes from the big guy.
The story is a timeless one that will always be a problem for families. The bond between Ted and his son is true and wonderfully done.
Again, “Kramer vs. Kramer” is great for anybody that loves Hoffman’s work, and it’s also great if you just love great work regardless.
