Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue) is a priest-in-training who has lost his way and quite possibly, his faith. He emails Father Matthew (Jones) to inform him that he would like to quit but Father Matthew suggests that Michael take an exorcism course in Italy in order to fulfill his tuition. Michael flies over there where he meets the eccentric Father Lucas Trevant (Anthony Hopkins) and Angeline (Braga), a reporter trying to find out the truth about exorcism.
Anthony Hopkins gives a great performance as the old seasoned priest that has performed thousands of exorcisms and that everyone regards as the authority on the subject. Michael is understandably skeptical and wonders whether Father Lucas’s subjects which include a pregnant 16 year old girl and a young boy, are possessed, or simply in need of psychiatric help.
There's a slight plot twist that you don't ordinarily see in possession movies, but other than that, it's much of the same. Sort of a toned down version of "The Exorcist."
