Another Lame Remake

Another needless remake of a memorable genre 'classic'. I LOVE the original RoboCop. One of my all-time favorite movies. This new, shinier 'RoboCop' doesn't try to emulate anything from it's predecessor, which is sometimes a good thing for remakes. That does bring about one good aspect in this update: the social commentary on drone warfare. This, surprisingly, is the only good part of the film and it's the actual driving force of the story. The political gray area of morals is handled believable within the confines of the movie's plot. However, it beats the message over our heads hoping that we'll get it. The intentions are so plainly obvious right from the first scene that the repetition felt like I was being talked down to. More subtlety would've worked. The supporting cast of seasoned actors ground the sic-fi element. Everything else is bad. The main character, and his family, are so far from compelling. The blandest of bland characters are carelessly thrown about. RoboCop himself is not interesting at all, outside of his shiny new look. And the biggest sin of all? The action is flat-out LAME! Nothing but a couple of half-assed CG shootouts that wouldn't be seen out of place in the most average of video games. What a bore! A forgettable waste.
