Revolution Begins

Having read this series, I didn't think 'Mockingjay' would benefit from being adapted into two films. However, to my surprise, the film fares better than the novel. I was not the biggest fan of the trilogy's finale. I had some issues with the first half. 'Part 1' fixes those issues I had. It expands on the political elements and spends more time on character development. This leads to stronger emotional involvement, as the stakes raise to substantial highs. I like how the story unfolds at a semi-slow pace, letting the pieces of this revolution provide serious build-up. Because of this, it borderlines on being a war film. This is a more refined and mature sequel that most will not be expecting. The only main drawback is the fact that the entire film is build-up with little punch. It really hit me when I reached the end scene. I was left wanting the finale immediately after the tense situation shown beforehand. 'Part 1' will most likely play even better when watching back-to-back with 'Part 2'. Sadly, we have to wait a whole year.
