A western not concerned with the usual cowboy tough-guy rancher stereotype. You won't find much emphasis on gunslinging or horse riding here. 'Jubal' is a melodramatic tale of crossed relationships. This one loves that one, but that one loves this other one, and another one is kinda evil. None keep their emotions in check. It all leads to tense confrontations, brought on by extreme desires. The story is a take on a certain type of Shakespearian narrative, placed in a tame western setting. I think it succeeds. A nice piece of entertainment.
