Heathers

Heathers was a morbid, very dark comedy. It involved high school students who were in very stereotypical cliques. Jocks vs nerds vs "cool" (mean) kids. The chemistry between the 2 main characters was actually palpable. Veronica, who seems bored with being in the "cool" clique, meets up with "bad boy", JD. Together, they commit a series of murders (made to look like suicide). This movie was made before Colombine, or my guess is it never would have been made. After Colombine, the idea of making a "comedy" about kids killing fellow students (complete with trench coats) would be beyond the social norms of being an "ok" thing to do. The 80's clothing and hair styles makes it clear this movie was made before this ugly chapter in American history, though. Made in a time before the "unthinkable " was possible. Because of this parallel, i found this comedy uncomfortable to watch. The acting of the 2 man characters was excellent, though. At times, JD sounded just like Jack Nicholson.
