I wondered whether the movie would work with 2 strong actors in Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe sharing the screen. Ridley Scott pulls it off well, of course it could be that the two of them hardly share any screen time, but he intertwines Washington's rise as a drug lord and Crowe's investigation well. I was surprised at the end when I saw two and a half hours had passed, the movie didn't seem that long. I really had no complaints - a good cast (I really liked Ruby Dee as Denzel's mom) and strong direction will usually equal a good film.
