When an asteroid of Biblical proportions is headed towards Earth, NASA hired the one man who could put a bomb in the middle of it, Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis). He and his crew try to save the world in “Armageddon.”
I’ve decided that Michael Bay is one of the smartest morons in Hollywood. He is quite possibly the worst director of our time, but it doesn’t matter because he chose to make big-budget action movies, which always bring in the masses, thus inspiring studios to hire him to once more destroy everything that is cinema.
“Armageddon” is no exception. There is one single plot present in the movie and only a trace of a subplot involving Stamper’s daughter Grace (Liv Tyler) being in love with Stamper’s co-worker, A.J. Frost (Ben Affleck). This of course goes nowhere you wouldn’t expect it go to and ends up being the only part of the movie that actually flows to a good conclusion.
As for the main plot, if you can call it that, the heroes travel to the asteroid to destroy it, but on their way they run into countless obstacles, none of which further the story until the end, and even that one is so forced that you can’t take it seriously.
But that’s just thing. People do take it seriously. The music forces you to feel emotion and thus makes you think that what you’re watching isn’t complete feces. Then there’s always that one musical moment near the middle that just brings the whole movie down to a new low.
“Armageddon” is one of the most ironically named movies in history to me. If you want a good end-of-the-world movie, go rent “Deep Impact.”
