The only reason to watch this movie is to see the ghost drag her out of bed and down the hall. Everything else was poor. How can they afford that house? She's an English student and he just films her all day. She told him not to get a Ouija board and he still acts all smug about it. He even invites her in to "help him set it up." It's not hard to set up a Ouija board: board, spyglass on board, done. Idiot. He was such an idiot. I mean, seriously, what an idiot. Every word out of his mouth was pure idiocy.

There is something utterly nasty lying at the cold heart of Paranormal Activity, the horror breakthrough of the decade. Whether you find the film terrifyingly convinving or a pile of Blair Witch Turd it will certainly provoke a reaction.

The 'activity' is subtle at first and then becomes increasingly menacing as the film progresses. It's something that draws you in and makes the scares work, so that the hair on the back of your neck stands up every time the characters are seen going to sleep. A simple, but very effective horror film laced with tension and some good jolts that will have you thinking twice before you go to bed.

Let me just be the opinionated douche right up front: anyone who says that this movie wasn't scary or didn't cause them any sort of terror is a LIAR! This movie is quite possibly the scariest movie that I have ever seen. It lives up to its hype and then some. I have never personally been in a movie where the audience was so enrapt and captured by what was happening on the screen. I have never seen an audience more receptive to the willing suspension of disbelief. What a great premise, execution, and all-over cinematic pizzazz!

8.5/10 Pretty damn effective. Finally, got to experience that classic story of a movie that made people talk back to the screen and scream at the top of their lungs. Still does not suspend disbelief or engage quite like the easily comparable Blair Witch Project, but that's probably just because my personality is closer to the people in that film as opposed to the couple in Paranormal Activity. It's actually much more scary now that I'm by myself at night. With each passing night I've liked a bit more. Also with each passing night I'm liking the like the 5 seconds of the film less and less.

A good horror movie, filled with some tense moments and a few jump-in-your-seat surprises as well. A young couple document the paranormal activity going on in their home - she hates it, he seems to get excited about it, and bad things start to happen. I lowered the rating because the end decides to get a little Hollywood on its audience and it's pretty extreme compared to the rest of the film, but other than that it's a good watch.
