Style sets skull above average

I remember watching "The Skull" on TV when I was young and thinking it was boring. Indeed, for close to 30 minutes near the end, there is no dialogue. But what a kid finds tedious, his adult counterpart finds creepily effective.
I don't suppose there's much to the story: collector of the occult (Peter Cushing) gets his hands on the skull of the Marquis de Sade and soon falls prey to its curse. There is a mystery involving other characters and their untimely demises; however, it's never fully resolved once the main character follows path.
Of particular note is Cushing's relationship with "guest star" Christopher Lee. I like their interactions when they portray colleagues. I'm not sure how often they did it, but it's an interesting contrast to their normal roles as adversaries.
