Metallica: Master of Performers

I'll start off this review by stating an obvious fact. If you are in any way a fan of the band Metallica, then GO see 'Through the Never'! This will undoubtably satisfy your need for a live performance from one of the most famous metal groups. You receive your money's worth in showmanship and musical quality alone. The four members of Metallica do give it their all, proving (and improving) their reputation and longevity. Combining the song choices, with the spectacularly elaborate stage props, and the immersive nature of the IMAX 3D, makes for a supremely fun experience. Unlike other concert films of late, 'Through the Never' opts to be more cinematic in presentation. Instead of documentary/behind the scenes footage placed between the tunes, we are dealt a short film (of sorts) of a roadie sent to retrieve 'something' to bring back to the show. His adventure becomes increasingly violent and outlandish as it progresses, leading up to an un-entirely explained end that lacks resolution. To me, these wordless scenes act more like an extended music video. They do fit with the playlist, highlighting individual crescendos within the songs and providing visuals that compliment the music. However, the overall aside feels unnecessary. Especially when the band's show is already spectacular in it's own right.
