B&W cinematography compliments the film noir structure of the plot, which is mostly told in flashback. A tired sheriff and a corrupt rancher lead a posse of selfish people to track down desperate outlaws. Secrets are revealed and schemes are hatched along the way. Broderick Crawford is good in a sympathetic lead role. John Derek is stiff in his supporting role though and the set-up does throw people randomly into the story.
