One can easily compare this with Fred MacMurray's earlier film noir DOUBLE INDEMNITY. Except it does drag in the beginning as the other reviewer mentioned. It has the same idea-MacMurry plays a sap that falls for a femme fatale. This time, the dark chick is played by Kim Novak in a very early role for her. And she's quite good at it. It almost feels like a screen test for her iconic appearance in Hitchcock's VERTIGO.
