Superb Sports Film With Real Characters

Not only is this a triumphant sports film that uses the unique setting of an MMA tournament to show an underdog story, but it's a raw portrait of a family trying to heal. The film skillfully uses the brutality of fighting as a release for pent up emotions. Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are equally solid as brothers with different chips on their shoulders, but I actually thought Nick Nolte's understated and tortured turn as their estranged father was the best performance of the film.
