Gooding Jr. gives an inspired performance, proving that he still has the acting chops, despite his sometimes debatable film decisions. The rest of the film, however, is by-the-books and pulls out every emotional cliche in the book. Sometimes, this works, but, oftentimes, it's too much of "been there, done that."
