There's a bittersweet romantic comedy buried in this brutal and sometimes vulgar sports film. Seann William Scott casts off his offensive typecasting to play a more sweet and optimistic character whose tentative romance with Alison Pill is the movie's most believable and charming parts. The film isn't a nonstop laugh riot, though Scott's motley cast of teammates offers their eclectic brand of humor, but it is touching in the right ways and a uniquely human journey into the world of hockey that is unexpected.
