Strikingly funny and original. Other animated comedies have tried to copy its formula with varying results.

This movie is a great balance between keeping kids entertained, and having a real story that adults find compeling, not to mention the harmless but funny jokes that go strait over kids' heads

A great movie that was ultimately killed by all of its sequels. I cant even watch this first one anymore. RIP Shrek

Not only is the animation here vivid and beautiful, but the film is full of colorful characters and a smart and satirical take on familiar storybook tales. Though the later sequels focused more on the pop culture references, this first film actually has a pretty exciting, action-driven plot, as well.

Fun animation. The story contains some funny twists on fairy tale lore. I wouldn't consider it completely worthy of it's high praise, but still worthy of seeing.

It's a very amiable story and the characters are so lovable, but it just irks me so much to hear the inappropriate jokes and language throughout. Which thus makes it, NOT a kid movie, people!

Well Shrek is a great, clever, and a freaking hilarious movie. The whole movie is full of adventure, an laughter so the whole family can enjoy. Throughout the film you laugh, and just be entertained. It's impossible to get bored while watching it. The great actors also make the film great: Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and last, but not least Eddie Murphy, the guy who plays "Donkey" makes us laugh, and have a great time.

Watch this movie with the kids, they'll like it. They won't know what the hell is going on half the time but they'll be like: "Haha the bird exploded!". And you'll like it too! Take it from a kid who had experience growing up with this movie, watching it pretty much every Friday, so much actually that I memorized all the dialogue and at one point could recite the entire movie. Yes, I did. Buy it on DVD you're going to end up watching it more than once! Or so many times you can recite it.
