A haunting drama about parental grieving commendable for its nonlinear narrative told through flashbacks.

An incredible and multilayered film and, really, the only Atom Egoyan (a director who i think directs in excess) I enjoy. It is a poignant and thought-provoking portrait of grief and loss and I think the way Ian Holm's character's storyline contrasted and intersected with the town's grieving process was absolutely brilliant. Add in the symbolism of the Pied Piper narration and you have a movie that can be rewatched and dissected on so many levels, as well as one that connects with you emotionally.

This movie was PAINFULLY boring. It's basically a movie Clint Eastwood made because he's afraid of dying (which is inevitably near for him) and was trying to soothe this fear with a contrived piece of shit about the afterlife. Don't waste your time. If this gets Oscar nods just because it's Eastwood, imma be PISSED.

One of the best movies, by a director who doesn't give the audience anything at face value. The challenges that Atom Egoyan presents are indeed most welcome. Good acting, and good balancing of the different stories. I can't wait to rewatch this one, as other Egoyan rewatches have proved to be great.
