M for Magnum Opus

This is why the Wachowskis should write screenplays more often. Man. That was awesome.
KingInTheNorth mentioned in his review that the film was reminiscent of Children of Men. While Children of Men is much more apocalyptic and tragic, the general atmosphere of a dystopian Britain is there, like A Clockwork Orange. A corrupt society.
The editing in the movie is amazing. The whole film feels like a juxtaposition of action, story and past events, although barely anything is shown in flashbacks.
James McTeigue made one of the best debuts possible, by letting his style combine with the excellent tone of the film. It's just a marvel of modern filmmaking, where a little bit of everything came together and it just worked.
The script shares much of the same newfound faith in the …

V for Vendetta

To all the guys who have seen, and liked "Children of Men". This movie has quite similar future visions. It is also located in Britain, a future not that far and the other countries seem to be messed-up.
We get very early introduced to the main chararcters in the movie, which makes us lose some (but very less) build-up. But by keeping on watching, everything gets clearer, the build-up stronger and the characters better.
The movie has a very obvious message, but who cares? The message underlines the meaning of the movie, no matter if it is obvious or not. To keep on going with the script: There are so many quotable lines in there, you don't even know what is the best. "We don't invent the news- the government does- we just tell them"
Hugo Weaving. My word Elrond, you are …

"V For Vendetta" by Yojimbo

In a great britain of the near future, a right wing politician has swept to power on the crest of a wave of Daily Mail inspired conservative nazism. Using a combination of spin and propaganda through the media, he has convinced the populace to sign away their rights and liberties until one masked man decides to fight back. Thank God I don't REALLY live in a Britain like that...! I was expecting great things from this film, its combination of politics, imagery and stylised action is exactly the kind of thing that appeals to me. Unfortunately, this level of expectation can often lead to disappointment, but what I was presented with here was a thoughtful, intelligent and wonderfully written "superhero" film in which the hero has no special powers or magic tricks; he is just an ordinary man …

V for vivacious

I have to rant a bit: Just because a film does not take place in an American-speaking land doesn't make it awful. Thank God that I watched foreign films before seeing this movie. I had far exceeded the "American dialect only" regime to be able to see the true genius behind this film. So, in lieu of committing a V-like violence (heh, made a funny), I decided to be real on this one. Boos to those that complained about the English/British accents. It only makes sense (that the movie has to have them) seeing that this film takes place in *London*. Cheers to those that understand that the story is really about America, but using the fact of blowing up a certain English sacred hall instead of the terrifying American one. After reading the comic, I loved the adaptations made and enjoyed …

Forget the past and you are doomed to repeat it

Remember remember the 5th of November the gunpowder, treason, and plot. If on March 15th 2006 you were to ask most Americans, "Who is Guy Fawkes?" And the odds of getting more than, "Huh? or Who? or I have no idea" wouldn't have been very likely. After March 16th when V for Vendetta was released you could have run into a dozen Guy Fawkes afficianados that seemed to know everything on the subject.
As funny as it is to think that such an action based movie could be called a lesson in British history, the movie is exactly that. It has a beautiful story line, sort of a British "1984" wrapped around the true story of Guy Fawkes who attempted to destroy Parliament by planting a large ammount of explosives in the basement.
The story is well told, the action is intense, and the character …

Inspiring and entertaining

The verdict is in for "V for Vendetta", the vengeful and vastly versed V is very verbose and vivacious and will not be vacated from my mind. V played by William Rookwood is superbly articulate man who wants revenge on everyone that made him the way he is today. He wears a mask throughout the whole film, and although you never see his face it won't stop you from feeling every emotion he feels. He refers to "The Count of Monte Cristo" repeatedly which gives a lot of incite to what he is feeling and how obsessed and driven by vengeance he is. Evey, Natalie Portman, is a woman that gets thrown into his world and tries to figure out is she can/should help him and his crusade against the new dictatorship that runs England.
The movie takes place in the not so distant future and portrays a …
