Walter Hill's cult hit about street gangs in New York is a gritty but often silly action movie that actually doesn't have much action but it packs a distinctive comic-book vibe blended in 1970s style that keeps you entertained. In fact, if you watch the director's cut, it actually pans in and out of frames like an actual comic book. The campy acting, the costume design, and the colorful cinematography reminds audiences that this is not meant to be taken seriously and it's all the more fun for it. Although the protagonists have a strong rapport with one another and remain likeable, it is David Patrick Kelly steals the the show as the weaselly villain that sneers "Warriors...come out to play!".

This movie could have went to ways for me; it could have been really bad and cheesy (Making it awesome) or it could have been a really good thriller/adventure type movie. It was in between. I enjoyed it, but it is a forgettable movie and didn't live up to my expectations. I will still look up the most famous clip on YouTube now and then; "Warriorrrrsss.... come out to play"

Horribly acted, terrible score and soundtrack. But, the story is original. I liked the gang aspect and some of the character development. It is an average movie that cult fans will enjoy.

There are moments of this cult classic that are iconic and inspired, both visually (namely the looks of the various gangs) and dialogue/story-wise. However, a lot of the interaction between the characters seems dated and overacted and those parts can cause the film to drag and are sometimes laughably bad.

Ah, the sweet sight of a cult classic never fails to brighten my day. Especially when so many wacky gangs come out to play. It may look a bit dated today, but it's lost none of its appeal. Can you dig it?
