The movie that both put mutants on the big screen for the first time AND introduced the 21st century to the superhero genre, "X-Men" might appear dated to some, but I prefer to use the term "retro."

The first superhero movie that didn't suck. This movie had pretty good visual effect's and Hugh JackMan played the wolverine so well nobody can't replace him.

The main problem with X-Men is that it spreads its characters too thin. By featuring a cast of mutants, it doesn't allow the core characters to become too developed and, thus, the series lacks the emotional depth of the recent Batman films, for instance. At least, however, Bryan Singer knows how to direct action and these sequences are impressive and exciting.

Had bits of good character development for Wolverine, Magneto, and Rogue, yet wanting more from the rest. If only First class and this first film combined, it could have been perfect. Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart brings their realistic acting prowess here. The special effects, direction and set pieces were stunning. I felt that X-Men 2 and First Class had the best story, though the screenplay here was not bad. The action was present and themes of acceptance and individuality was present. X-Men was a good beginning to a franchise enjoyed by people who are comic lovers or just fans of sci-fi.

Made comic-book heroes accessible to everyone and changed the way comic movies were made, by having the story and characters be the strong force. The action and special effects are just the icing on the cake. The comparison of real world issues to the themes in the movie are rich and make the heroes relatable. One of the best comic based movies of all time.

It was pretty good, but they ruined it when they made Rogue and Iceman kids and wolverine the main character.

One of the best comic book movies to date, this is by far my favorite. A great story that is kept fairly close to the comics, yet far enough away to keep to itself and not be compared, "X-Men" is a wonderful action movie with good twists, excellent special effects, and enough sexy people in spandex to keep us all drooling.

The first of the 3 X-men movies is not bad nor is it really good. It just seems rather standard, but not really poor. It could have been worse and it could have been better. It not anything great as in characters or the overall story, but the action scenes are okay and the special effects are done well enough. Although the characters are not great they are okay, and although the story is is not great, well actually that is the worst part of it, it really does not work. Not a good film but not a truly bad film either.

I was five years old when MARVEL COMICS first released its maiden issue. That was 1963. Wheww! I feel jurasically old just mentioning that. I'm a big fan of STAN LEE, rather a big follower of a lot of his creations, including this one. Take note though that there were a lot of spin-offs like THE NEW MUTANTS, EXCALIBUR, and THE WOLVERINE. Amazing clash between mutants and regular homo sapiens. This builds up a growing tension in the plot, which spills over to the next few future cinema series. Good job!
