Woody Allen definately crafts an original, and undoubtedly funny, mockumentary.

Another solid comedy by Woody Allen, this mockumentary about a man so bland he instantly takes on the characteristics of whoever he is with has some brilliant lines and is quite a witty social commentary.

A mockumentary fueled by that typical 'allenian' verve, featuring occasional statements from real-life intellectuals playing themselves, all part of a comically unusual premise that pokes fun at neuroses and personality disorders nurtured by the chameleon-esquire title character. It lacks empathy though, resulting a bit distant and not as funny than one might expect, despite Farrow's ever affable presence. Gordon Willis' aged black and white cinematography and the crew's visual trickery impress, taking into account the stage of technological advancement at the time of production, regardless of digital tools, a decade ahead of the multimillionaire Oscars cumulated by Forrest Gump.

Waxy's right--this is classic Allen. It also has to be the inspiration behind Forest Gump. The technical effects--inserting Allen's character into famous historical scenes--isn't as good but this was at least 10 years before Gump! The fascinating main character and the humorous and witty narration drive this movie.

Unique. That's how I define this movie. Allen invents this character (is he) and develops the story and the movie to make it look as a documentary. Funny, original and with the acid touch that he used to have. Again, his earlies movies were nearly perfection. What happened Woody?
