Pan's Labyrinth is Guillermo Del Toro's masterwork. It tells a macabre Alice in Wonderland type story, framed against a tragic WWII setting. The film features a host of creative and dark visuals and succeeds on both the adventure and thriller fronts. More importantly, though, Del Toro shows great emotional depth in directing the more human elements of the story that collide with the created fantasy realm.

Everybody's darling. I'll see it again sometime and try to raise my rating of it. Dark, difficult, symbolic.

I was disappointed. The violence was overbearing. The ending is theologically flawed if you try and look at it from a religious standpoint. The three tasks don't seem to share a common theme-unless you accept my Women's Reproduction Issues Theory. The best part is that haunting lullaby.

A grim fairytale definitely not for Children, Labyrinth is an immaculately shot movie with majestic set design. Blending the horrors of war with the surreal fantasies of a child, this is a movie that is dark, brutal and ultimately devastatingly sad. Set in post war Spain, Labyrinth could also be construed as a political allergy with its anti fascist commentary but it undoubtedly works best as a captivating and imaginative dark fable. Guillermo Del Toro continues to excel as one of the most visually impressive directors in the business.

It's a highly entertaining and creative movie. Very enjoyable. And not just for the special effects, but the story-line is great as well.
