A sharp-witted legal drama that's both tense and funny. Charles Laughton steals almost every scene as the cantankerous lawyer to the defense.

Billy Wilder evokes both Hitchcock and Lang when directing this smartly written trial movie that ends on a couple neat twists. Charles Laughton is the capable defense attorney; Tyrone Power the fearful defendant; and Marlene Dietrich is his mysterious wife who has secrets of her own.

I really enjoyed seeing Charles Laughton's wheezy lawyer navigate the exciting twists and turns of this courtroom drama. With a sharply-written story from master storyteller Billy Wilder, this film never lets off the gas pedal.

A GREAT movie from the start with a twist in the end I did not see coming at all

This is on my top movies list for a reason. Never has Tyrone Power been in better form. Also Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton were outstanding. Since I adore Billy Wilder to pieces, I thought the movie was a solid 9/10, until the end which made it a 10/10 and automatically one of my favorite movies ever. With the exception of Julie Delpy in white I have never hated a character as much as I hated Marlene's. OH BOY SHE MADE MY BLOOD BOIL!

A long winded courtroom drama that I thought was pretty predictable. While the performances where good enough, I was never entertained. Marlene Dietrich does a fine job, but a times, she over acts. This is a bit dated, and nothing special here (at least in my mind).
