The romantic desires of the characters fuel this journey. The film ever so subtly increases in tension up to it's last third, where things take a turn for the worst. Our main male character's complicated emotional dilemma is believable in this situation. It ends in a compelling tragic light.

I don't think I quite bought into the dramatic tension that the director tries so desperately to create here. However, taken as individual scenes, the cast is fantastic and it's a good study for those interested in character acting.

So overrated I don't even want to think about it. Liz Taylor was annoying and the values promoted within made me want to wretch. Deserves a lower rating but it was at least competently made and mildly intriguing.

A great thriller that is very Hitchcock like. Clift is great and Taylor's best and most beautiful performance. "A Place in the Sun" is a classic 50's movie that is sure to delight even todays patient crowd seeking an original thrill.
