Marty review

A film that centers on Marty Piletti (Ernest Borgnine) who cannot find any luck with women. Marty meets a girl named Clara (Betsy Blair), a school teacher, after being rejected. He becomes comfortable with her and bond. Ralph, a friend of Mary's, offers him a girl who is "money in the bank" but he refuses to prevent hurting the feelings of Clara. Tommy doesn't get along with his wife and does favors for his mother. Screenplay was smart with lines: "Don't be so afraid." "Where did it all go...Time goes on boy." "Everybody's gone crazy." "Sooner or later there comes a point in a man's life when he's got to face some facts." Downside was some scenes where they speak so slowly, so scripted and somewhat silly in a way (scene where Marty craves for a kiss). Poor baby was crying from …

I'm a pretty big fan of romance films, but most of them are either too full of love that they become weighted down in ham or they have no love and are really hard to sit through. A very nice film that involves a lot of sadness and happiness. Properly atmospheric with all the supporting characters feeling very real. Ernest Borgnine is great as Marty who has romantic problems. Th story is very effective and keeps you watching throughout. The only thing I did not like about it was Betsy Blair she just did not give a very good performance, but almost everyone else was great and the movie is great.

Oscar Win Best Actor Ernest Borgnine 5/5- Borgnine is great in this. He perfectly plays the complicated character of Marty in every scene in the film. He never strikes a false note and is completely believable the whole time and shows a range you might not expect from him.

Oscar nominee best supporting actor Joe Mantell 1/5- Mantell is not bad or anything but there …
