Screwball comedy classic about a reporter trying to win back his ex-wife by any means necessary. The plot (so to speak) is just an excuse for rapid-fire snipping between Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. It's snappy and witty. We don't really see that anymore. I can't say the movie is as funny as it thinks it is. And there's weird tonal shifts from comedy to straight-up drama that does not always work.

This film is probably best known for its whip-smart dialogue and it's very quick. However, there is more to this film than fast dialogue. It's quite sexist, although, I do think the fact that Cary Grant thinks Rosalind Russell should stay and work for him, (even though she feels she needs to be married) is empowering. I also think the way that Cary Grant seems to always get one over everyone else just isn't right. He's always the smartest man in the room and he never fails. I wonder what the original play, The Front Page was like. It was a one-act set inside the press room and the character of Hildy was a male. Not a female like the movie. A good, but not great film.

The greatest classic screwball comedy of all time (after 'Arsenic and Old Lace')! And no, I do not think that that is a very limited superlative.

Walter Burns (Cary Grant) has a heated discussion with ex-wife reporter Hildegard "Hildy" Johnson (Rosalind Russell). Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy) leaves Hildy since she was busy writing an article. The beginning was enjoyable which unfortunately dwindles down because of the confusing plot. Characters everywhere like Earl Williams (John Qualen, Hildy's supposed to be mother (Alma Kruger) and crooked mayor (Clarence Kolb) pop-up. An okay comedy with a lot of swift conversations, His Girl Friday could have been way better in many aspects for a comedy.

Razor-sharp wit is thrown at lightning speed between the actors and, somehow, the film still manages to make sense. It's a breakneck screwball comedy ride that succeeds even more because of the natural comedic timing and charm of its stars.

Some of the best dialog as "sung" or "bounced" by the actors. I love it when actors are able to speak really fast back and forth. It shows true talent. hahah, this one is great. #1 favorite Cary Grant film

I must have liked it, but I do not remember a whole lot about it. I do remember it being better than most romantic comedies that are out today
