Charlie Bartlett the movie, will pass the time. There are worse films out there, but there are also better ones. Its a film that once you stop the dvd, you'll spare no thought to it (unless to write a review), its just another average film. I like Anton Yelchin the main actor here, i think better things are going to come out of him but this will in no way add to his fame. An incredibly middle of the road high school movie that really should have tried harder.

I really wanted to like this movie. It seemed like a great concept. Some decent performances (especially by RDJ) were just plain overshadowed by poor script, poor directing and just plain awful dialog. The scenarios were so obviously constructed that they just screamed "IGNORE YOUR SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF!"

The drama worked a lot better than the comedy some of which seemed forced and quirky for the sake of being quirky. The sudden shift in tone from comedy to serious drama was jarring to say the least, I wished they would just pick a side of the fence and stay there. All that being said most of the movie was amusing and everyone gives great performances especially Robert Downey Jr. playing Robert Downey Jr. which clearly involves him being a drunk. Even though some of the high school moment were naive and idealistic, the message was there and worked. Too bad the R rating prevents it from being seen by the target demographic.
