King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters review

"Anything can happen in Donkey Kong." Gamer, geek, or plain ordinary men can enjoy this. This rater has played the games (Pacman & Donkey Kong) with more affluent neighbors who had Atari's. The difficulty of the games gameplay were just maddening, fun and addictive. The dissection of Donkey Kong on the video was insightful. Billy Mitchell's groundbreaking record, Steve Wiebe's attempt to break the record, Guiness World Records, Walter Day's story and more were very entertaining. Soundtrack was fantastic including a rare The Cure track and Eye of the Tiger to pump things up. From the editing, detailed timelines/locations and soundtrack, this is flawless. The documentary focuses not only on skilled gamers, but also on fame, competition, positive thinking, perfection, pride, …

Here is a great documentary that comes off like a inspirational sports movie even though the game involved is Donkey Kong. The story is more than just the rivarly between the average man Steve Wiebe and the "evil" Billy Mitchell who makes for an extremely memorable villian it also shows a strange world of these older people who play these old arcade games and the sub culture that there are with the people involved with twin galaxies. The whole thing is facinating and it moves along extremely well and never feels slow or boring. It tells the side of both men and gives a strong insight to their characters as seen in the film. It shows the mechanics of the scoring and everything else of the game and the way the "elite" video game people deal with it. The odds against Wiebe and everything …

Seinfeld versus Newman. Rosie O' Donnell versus Donald Trump. Kathy Griffin versus The View. All of these are famous well known rivalries. Yes, you may be thinking to your self, "I know that, so what?". Well, through superb filmmaking by director Seth Gordon brings a new memorable rivalry to the table; hot sauce mogul and Video Game champ Billy Mitchell versus Boeing employee turned middle school science teacher, always in second Steve Wiebe.

"The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" tells the story of the rivalry between Mitchell and Steve for the world record in the classic Donkey Kong. Mitchell, the poster child/referee for the video game high score agency, Twin Galaxies, is considered by most the greatest classic gamer of the 20th century. He is also strongly believes at self …

Classic Good vs. Evil

This movie brought me back some memories because I used to play "Donkey Kong" when I was younger. It was a difficult but fun game... but this movie is more fun than difficult. I could relate to the gamer that the audiences are following because he works so hard and when he fails, he's too hard on himself. Because of that, I rooted for him to win. Even though it's a documentary, I was surprised that it had some twists. This is a really enjoyable picture to watch because it's not about anything political. It's more about overcoming or succeeding at something even if it may seem lame to most people. It's also about winners and losers and the other meanings of those words. This film is about gaming... yet it felt like it was more than that. I couldn't help but smile while I was watching this …
