It works its old-fashioned melodrama magic slowly but assuredly, identifying social hypocrisies that would keep one from pursuing their own happiness along the way.

Earnest if predictable romantic drama about a widow (Wyman) falling in love with a younger man (Hudson). The photography is beautiful and the performances are good.

The younger man dating an older woman plot is pretty cliched and presented pretty standardly here. Wyman and Hudson do what they can with the material and, occasionally pull the material out of mediocrity, but it's a pretty overrated film, in my opinion.

A pretty good melodrama. In the seventies, Fassbinder improved upon this in Fear Eats the Soul. However, this is still a remarkable picture. Recommended.
