To call it a "sad" movie doesn't even begin to describe it. "Cries and Whispers" is an almost morbid tale of mortality and anguish.

This is one of Bergman's most personal films, but also one of his most painful. It features frayed acting that carries its nerves on the surface and demonstrates the depths of human monstrosity. It's almost a dramatic horror film - captivating, albeit somewhat depressing to watch.
