Expertly handled drama about racial tensions at an urban hospital where a black doctor is accused by a racist hoodlum of killing the latter's brother in an operation. Sidney Poitier is good as he usually is. But Richard Widmark is superb as the vile robber whose racism blinds him to reason. Linda Darnell has a nice supporting role. The frank depiction of racism and its impact for a 1950 release no less is highly commendable. It's not an easy subject to dramatize effectively, but the script and Joseph Mankiewicz's direction helps make it a compelling watch.
