Not my favorite Godard, but Pierrot le Fou is a film better experienced than followed linearly. Godard combines surreal juxtaposition, philosophical dialogue, and some bold visual choices into a film that assaults the senses, boldly. As a pop art and collage film, some scenes work and are very thematically striking, and others are more "out there," and don't connect as well. It's hard to deny, though, that Godard was one of the New Wave directors who shaped the "cool" style of the 60's and, from that perspective, Pierrot le Fou continues his reign, full of style, fashion, wit, and action.
