This could have been a superb movie if it didn't have the racist imagery in it. The love she had for her daughter was authentic. The love she had for her husband was not. It could have been a tremendous movie.

One of the more heartbreaking Barbara Stanwyck movies. Directed by King Vidor, no less. Also recommended is Forbidden, also with Stany, directed by Frank Capra. Both have similar tales as women with a child they are not allowed to be near, because of society's mores.
