"Take the Money and Run" is funny enough to tag along with the other comedies from Woody Allen's early years.

Love this movie. Granted, not everyone has the sense of humor to understand what Woody is doing in this film. Many memorable lines ... a couple of reviewers have mentioned the cello. My favorite line regarding that was when his cello teacher said "He had no conception of the instrument ... he was blowing into it." Beautiful! And near the end, when they were trying to interview the guy that saw what happened, he kept having to re-start his story because he kept telling us what he had for breakfast - priceless. And the movie finished with the best ending ever.

Another of Woody Allen's earlier, more joke orientated spoofs, this has some really funny moments in his once favoured mockumentary style.

I saw this when it came out, and my friends and I saw it again and again, laughing through it and quoting it afterwards. Over the years, when I've watched it again, more and more of the "great bits" seem kind of lame, but there is still so much of this movie that's inventive and memorable that it stands the test of time. Not many comedies do (outside of Woody's "early, funny ones"). Just a few days ago, I heard someone referring to playing cello in the marching band.

Woody Allen's official first film is hysterical and worthwhile. With a noteable performance by Janet Margolin you can't go wrong, unless you don't like laughing.
